Just clocked into work and got my shift briefing. Apparently while Iwas sleeping a P-47 decided to take a bath in the Hudson in the middle of fleet week. Pilot is ok , bystanders are ok, plane is now freshly cleaned I guess. good news all around i heard FDNY managed to tie the plane to a boat to keep it from sinking which is pretty sweet. I cant even begin to imagine how much it is gonna cost for the restoration.
EDIT: Unfortunately reports have come out that the pilot did not survive. the reports of a person swimming from the wreck was just a bystander attempting a rescue. The aircraft itself came to rest at the bottom of the hudson. Indeed a rough memorial day weekend. Stay safe out there everyone.

Did they recover it yet? The news isn’t reporting if the jug made it in one piece or not.

from what ive gathered at work it seems to be mostly intact. FDNY seems to have come in with the clutch save for the airframe. probably a case of right place right time with FDNY and NYPD stepping up patrols for fleet week.

That sucks. I want to give this an anti-star, feeling bad for the pilot and their family.
